Our packing tips for your trip to Nicaragua

 

First, remember that it’s hot here, so stay cool and travel light!

 

You will probably need:

  • Lightweight, comfortable hiking or walking shoes (water repellent is helpful)

  • Flip-flops/sandals and water shoes

  • Lightweight, breathable clothing for adventurous activities and lounging

  • Bathing suit and cover-up (sarong or pareo) - we provide pool towels

  • Water repellent, lightweight jacket when visiting during the rainy season

  • Lightweight wrap or sweater for evenings

  • Sunscreen (spf 30)

  • Lip Balm with spf

  • Insect repellent with a little bit of DEET

  • Basic medical kit (pain reliever, antacid, allergy medicine, antibiotic ointment, band-aids, etc.) and your own prescriptions

  • Cameras, binoculars, memory cards, batteries and chargers

  • Small flashlight or headlamp

  • Light sleepers should bring earplugs and an eye mask

  • Re-fillable water bottle

  • A good book

 

Items you will NOT need:

  • Formal clothing

  • Heavy clothing

  • High heels or any shoes you’ll only wear once

  • Hair dryer, curling iron or flat iron

  • Snorkeling gear

  • Drones - they are not permitted and may be confiscated by the Nicaraguan authorities

 

Optional items, if you would like to donate to local children’s organizations:

  • Toothbrushes, toothpaste, floss

  • Pencils, erasers, sharpeners

  • Notebooks

  • Arts/craft supplies

  • Bilingual books for kids
